Hopscotch Nursery originally started life as Gilwern Playgroup back in the 1970's! It became Hopscotch Nursery in 1994 and was initially based at Gilwern Community Centre before moving to our current site at Gilwern Primary School in 2002. Over the years we've seen so many changes, but one thing that has always been at the heart of what we do - a commitment to nurturing and inclusive environment, supporting all our children to achieve their potential.
Nursery provision for children aged 2½ years until the end of their preschool year.
Breakfast provision for nursery children.
After School Club for children in their preschool year and children attending Gilwern Primary School.
Holiday Club provision during school summer holidays.
Hopscotch Nursery aims to provide an environment where children feel safe, valued, respected and supported to achieve their full potential through play and positive relationships. We have 7 core values which underpin all of the work we do.
The central importance of play – children have an intrinsic need to play. Through playing children find ways to explore a range of emotions and to learn about the world.
Autonomous learners – all children are unique, and they learn best by doing things for themselves.
Knowledgeable and nurturing practitioners – practitioners facilitate and guide rather than instruct, providing real life experiences and using observations to support and extend children’s interests.
The power of relationships – relationships are of huge importance in a child’s life. All relationships in a child’s life are valued and practitioners develop positive meaningful relationships with the children in their care.
Nature matters – experiencing and understanding nature and our place in it, through real life experiences supports children to learn about the inter-relationship of all living things.
Child-centred pedagogy - effective, child-centred pedagogy that is responsive, and dynamic is essential to support children’s development.
Creativity and the power of symbols – children represent their own ideas in their own way, expressing their inner thoughts, supported by a nurturing environment
Quality is at the heart of what we do. We are proud of all our achievements.
